The Association of Centenary Tennis Clubs was founded on the 11th of June in 1996 by eight European clubs with the idea or objective of bringing these clubs together in an international association, initially at a European level, and later on worldwide. All of the clubs had a history which dated back at least one hundred years, significant tennis and sporting tradition, and also social significance. |

"The purpose of the Association is to uphold the traditions of tennis, through the activity of the clubs which have contributed to promoting this sport throughout the whole world. In order to achieve such aims, the Association shall organize sports and cultural events, round-tables and seminars concerning tennis and all the aspects of the life of the clubs connected to the world of tennis or which are typical of tennis clubs; it will maintain in addition the spirit of fair play which is inherent to this sport" (article 1.2. of the Articles of the Association). | |||||
The protocol
of the Constitution of the CTC was signed before the Notary Public of
Lausanne, Switzerland, Mr. Jean-François Rodondi by: · Mr. Juan Mª Tintoré in representation of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899 (Barcelona, Spain). · Mr. Philippe Washer in representation of the Royal Leopold Club (Brussels, Belgium). · Mr. Xavier de La Courtie in representation of the Racing Club of France (Paris, France). · Mr. Brian Hatton in representation of the Cumberland Lawn Tennis Club (London, United Kingdom). · Mr. Enrico Cerutti in representation of the Tennis Club Milano Alberto Bonacossa (Milan, Italy). · Mr. Lars Myhrman in representation of the Kungliga Lawn Tennis Klubben (Stockhom, Sweden). · Mr. François Roch in representation of the Tennis Club Geneve (Geneva, Switzerland). · Mr. Wolfgang Hofer in representation of the LTTC Rot Weiss Berlin (Berlin, Germany). Mr. Robert Abdesselam (International Club of France) and Mr. Marco Gilardelli (International Club of Italy) acted as advisors and consultants, who together with Mr. Brian Hatton (International Club of England), had drawn up the first draft of the Statutes of the Association. The CTC is governed by a General Assembly of Members, who meet a minimum of once a year in the Olympic Museum of Lausanne, Switzerland, headquarters of the Association, and by the Executive Committee, whose meetings are convened by the President of the Committee as he/she deems necessary. The composition
of the Executive Committee, in accordance with what was agreed in the
AGM held on 17 November 2001, is as follows: Robert Abdesselam, Brian Hatton and Marco Gilardelli attend the meetings of the Executive Committee and the AGM's in the capacity of advisors. The Secretary of the CTC and of its Executive Committee is Mr. Carlos Mercé, General Manager of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899, and the office of the secretary of the Association is situated in this club. In the Annual General
Meeting held in the Olympic Museum of Lausanne on 16th of November 2002,
the following, among other items, were agreed upon: Admission of 5 new
members: Study the organization of competitions between member clubs, which would be grouped by geographic areas. At the AGM held
on the 8th of November 2003, the admission of the following clubs was
approved: Eden Epsom Tennis & Squash Club (Auckland, New Zeland),
Yokohama International Tennis Community (Yokohama, Japan), Rochusclub
Düsseldorfer Tennis Club e.V. (Düsseldorf, Germany), Circolo
del Tennis Firenze (Firenze, Italy) and Abo Lawn-Tennis Klubb (Turku,
Finland). With these 5 new clubs, there are now 32 members in the CTC.
It was also agreed that a project for competition would be studied,
from the year 2005 on, for all member clubs, and that these would be
grouped by geographic zone. The appointment of Mr. Pere Sánchez
(Club Tennis de La Salut, Barcelona, Spain) as a new member of the Committee
of Management was also approved. The make-up of the Committee of Management
is as follows: ------------------------ The AGM which was held on the 20th of November in the Olympic Museum of Lausaunne approved the admission of the Tennis-Club1899 e.V. Blau Weiss of Berlin (Germany) and of the Sokolniki Tennis Club "Spartak" of Moscow (Russia). The creation of
the Geographical Areas Clubs Competition, which will begin in 2005,
was also approved. This is a competition in which all member clubs of
the CTC can participate. The modification of the Statutes of the Association
was studied, and these are due for approval in the next Extraordinary
General Meeting (EGM). |
